The results of the Gujarat assembly elections are out. This time the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a new record. In Gujarat, which has 182 assembly seats, 156 BJP candidates won the elections. The Congress suffered the most. The Congress came straight down to 17 from 77 seats. Means Congress had to bear the loss of 60 seats. At the same time, this time only five candidates of the Aam Aadmi Party, which claimed to form the government, could win the elections. The SP candidate won one seat, while the remaining three seats were won by independent candidates.
In the 2022 Gujarat elections, the Congress had fielded sitting MLA Imran Khedawala as its candidate for the Jamalpur Khadia seat in Ahmedabad district. Despite the poor performance of the Congress this time, Khedawala won his seat. He defeated Bhushanbhai Bhatt of BJP by 13,658 votes.
Jamalpur Khadia seat was very important for BJP and Congress in this election. Before this election, in one of the two elections held here, the BJP had won and the Congress had won the other. There are a large number of Muslim voters in this seat. The vote of the community plays a decisive role for any party.
Congress had won here in 2017
The Congress had won this seat in the 2017 assembly elections. In this election, Congress had given ticket to Imran Khedawala. Khedawala defeated BJP candidate Ashok Bhatt by 6000 votes in this election.
Significantly, before 2012, the name of this seat used to be Khedia, but in 2012, Jamalpur was added in front of Khedia. In 2012, Ashok Bhatt defeated Sameer Khan Sipai of Congress in the election field from BJP.
AIMIM gave ticket to Gujarat President from here
BJP had given ticket to Bhushanbhai Bhatt on this seat for 2022 elections. At the same time, the Congress had declared its sitting MLA Imran Khedawala as the candidate for this seat. Harunbhai Nagori had contested from your side, whose deposit was forfeited in this election. He got only 5,887 votes.
Apart from this, Owaisi’s party AIMIM was also in the fray here. It fielded its Gujarat unit chief Sabir Kabliwala. He could get only 15,677 votes in this election.
